Great spot for the Volunteers to put it all together and explode offensively. They rolled Virginia Week 1 but have struggled on offense since, much of which has been self-inflicted. They've racked up 20 penalties for 167 yards over the last two weeks to go along with a plethora of uncharacteristic drops. We trust Head Coach Josh Heupel to clean things up as they return home.
The swamp had a massive impact on last week's game. Tennessee had 5 False starts and burned a couple of timeouts to avoid delay of game penalties. Communication at the LOS was practically non-existent for Tennessee. They won't have to worry about that playing at Neyland Stadium with the Volunteer faithful behind them. They still outgained Florida with 387 yards of total offense, QB Joe Milton threw for 287.
Their defense actually played decent all things considered. They were on the field for over 37 minutes during that game and only allowed 3 second half points. One of Florida's touchdowns came off an Interception that set FLA up goal-to-go and another came courtesy of a 62 yard touchdown run by Trevor Etienne, one of the most explosive running backs in the Country. UTSA doesn't have anywhere close to the same talent as Florida. The Tennessee defense had surrendered just 26 combined points in their first 2 games of the season.
Offensively they'll face a UTSA defense that just got smoked by Army. The Black Nights ran for 254 yards and even threw for 188 as they dropped 37 points on the Roadrunners. If Army's undersized offensive line was able to push around the UTSA defense, Tennessee's certainly will. UTSA has also turned it over 5 times without a single takeaway through 3 games this season.
The last time UTSA stepped into a true Power 5 program's House came in Texas last year. The Longhorns scored 41 with 459 yards of total offense. That also came when Quinn Ewers was injured (the QB that just went into Alabama and won).
Tennessee's out for blood after last week. It's one thing to get beat on your best day but a whole different animal when you come up short because you didn't show up. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth and unfortunately for UTSA they're going to take it out on them. Don't be surprised when this is a career day for QB Joe Milton.
