Over/Under: 53.5

Pick of the Week: Houston +8.5

Both teams enter this one 2-0, but the tape says the gap between them isn't nearly as wide as an eight-and-a-half-point line suggests. Houston and Texas Tech share a common opponent in Oregon State, and the difference was stark: Houston piled up 533 total yards in a 33-20 win, while Texas Tech managed just 352 total yards in a narrower 35-24 win over that same Oregon State team. Texas Tech also opened its season with an uninspiring 33-10 win over an FCS opponent, hardly the kind of performance you'd expect from a team many picked to contend for the conference.

Houston's offense has real juice behind it, too. Quarterback Conner Weigman has completed 69% of his passes for 425 yards, four touchdowns, and just one interception through two games, giving the Cougars a legitimate answer through the air to go with the production they've shown on the ground.

Texas Tech's own quarterback situation is a genuine strength, with Will Hammond back and playing well after an ACL injury (76.7% completion, 487 yards, two touchdowns), and this series has historically leaned the Red Raiders' way against the spread. But this year's evidence points to a Houston team that's been the more complete, more impressive product through two weeks, against a Texas Tech squad that hasn't separated itself from lesser competition.

Bottom Line: Houston has been the better team by the numbers against a common opponent, and Texas Tech hasn't shown enough to justify laying more than a touchdown and a half at home. Lean Houston +8.5.
