Jameson Taillon has been elite. He's 5-0 with a 2.17 ERA over his last 6 starts. The Cubs also won his no decision so CHC is 6-0 his last 6. He's pitched better on the road all season and made 3 of his last 6 starts away from Wrigley. The combined stat line: 21 IP, 6 Hits, 3ER, 1 HR, 1.29 ERA.
As a member of the NYY in 2022 Taillon faced TOR 6 times last year. He allowed more than 2 ER in just one of those 6 starts and it was 3ER in a start at Yankees stadium. He made 3 of the 6 starts at Toronto too. He allowed a combined 3 ER in 19IP, good for a 1.42 ERA. The Blue Jays had a .248 BA and .661 OPS for Taillon last season. Bo Bichette is also hurt, he hit .353 against Taillon last year. Raimel Tapia was also 4 for 10 vs Taillon and he's no longer with the team. That's 10 of the 33 hits Taillon allowed in 133 at bats.
Toronto's bats are also ice cold. They've scored just 13 runs in their last 6 games. They're hitting .224 with a .601 OPS during that span. Half of their team has an OPS at .500 or below this past week.
Hyun Jin Ryu starts for the Blue Jays. We took advantage of his 2023 debut on August 1st (Click Here). He made his 2nd start against CLE last week and was in the midst of a no hitter before taking a liner off the knee in the 4th. The Guardians rank dead last in OPS in the Month of August. He's avoided significant injury but any level of discomfort is alarming.
He's 36 years old and just made it back from a long Tommy John surgery recovery. He's made just 8 big league starts since 2021 and his average fastball Velo is down to 89 MPH. He took the 96mph liner off his plant leg too. He might be Wolverine but the odds are that knee doesn't feel spectacular and he's pushing through it to try and help his team hold onto their half game wildcard lead.
The Cubs offense ranks 2nd in the league since the All-Star Break and 3rd in the Month of August. They've scored 6 and 5 runs against Toronto in the first two games as well.
