The Mets have lost 4 straight series and they’re 1-5 in their last 6. They’ve scored 2 or less in 4 of those 6 games. Max Scherzer was supposed to start today but he was scratched due to injury. David Peterson gets the call up from Triple A to make a spot start. He was demoted after pitching to a 7.34 ERA in 6 MLB starts. He made 1 start at AAA and gave up 4 ER on 7 hits and 5 walks. Tough spot to get back on track as Great American Ball Park is the most hitter friendly spot in the Bigs.
CIN starts Luke Weaver. He’s struggled to avoid the big inning, but he’s faced some of the better lineups in baseball. The Pirates and Rangers ranked 3rd and 5th offensively through April and then he just pitched against the Padres. Who have been much better since Tatis returned. His ERA is 2.02 points higher than expected so there’s some tough luck involved. He owns a career 4.74 ERA as a starter and has turned in plenty of decent starts since 2016. Facing a Mets lineup hitting .206 with an OPS of .608 (26th) in the last week, now’s as good an opportunity as ever.
9:45pm est: Nationals ML +205 (3 Units)
Patrick Corbin is throwing the ball well. He has a 3.73 ERA in his last 4 starts and hasn’t allowed more than 3ER in any of them. His last two were very strong. He went 5.1 IP allowing 3 ER against the Pirates on April 29th. PIT was the 3rd best offense in April and rank 6th vs Lefties in 2023. His most recent start came against the Cubs on May 4th. He went 7 innings allowing 2 ER on 3 hits. Chicago is the 7th ranked offense vs LHP.
Offensively the Giants have 25 runs scored in their last 8 games. That’s an average of just 3.1 runs per game. They’re also terrible vs Lefties, ranking 26th in OPS.
SF rolls out Logan Webb, who’s pitching well but run support has been hard to come by. He’s 2-5 through 7 starts while allowing 2 ER or less in 4 of those 7. The Giants bullpen has also been atrocious, pitching to a 5.8 ERA (28th). The Nationals are hitting .278 through their last 6 games. They also tagged Webb for 18 hits and 6 ER in 2 starts last year. Going back they’ve scored 5, 9, and 7 Runs. They’re 2-1 in those 3 and 5-2 in their last 7 overall.
