2:20pm est: CIN/CHC Under 7 -115 (3 Units)
Hunter Greene starts for the Reds. After a stellar month of April, he’s faltered a bit in May. He just went 7 innings against the Yankees, allowing 4 ER. All 4 Runs came from the 5th inning on. The start prior he got lit up @ Coors Field where he and numerous others struggle. He held the Mets to 2 ER in 5.1 IP the start before Colorado. Great get right spot for the young up and coming Starter. The last time he saw the Cubs he pitched 6 shutout innings while allowing just 2 hits. Offensively Chicago’s struggling, hitting just .195 as a team over their last 5 games. Excluding his Colorado Start, Greene’s posted a 2.49 road ERA (4 Starts).
The NL’s 3rd ranked ERA leader starts for the Cubs. He finally surrendered more than 3 ER in a start @ Houston a couple weeks ago but he followed that up by throwing 6 scoreless @ PHI. He’s posted a 1.48 ERA in 5 Home starts and a 1.22 ERA in 6 day starts. The Reds rank 21st to the Cubs 23rd over the last week. They also rank 19th vs LHP.
With both teams playing a day game after a night game, their best offensive catchers aren’t behind the dish. The weather conditions are also favorable. 57° with 12MPH winds blowing in.
8:40pm est: Rockies ML +180 (3 Units)
Mad Max starts for the Mets, but it’s been a bumpy ride in 2023. He has a 4.01 ERA through 7 starts and a 5.96 Road ERA (5 Starts). He’s coming off 6 scoreless at home against Cleveland but he has yet to string together quality starts. His 5 Road Starts; 3 ER in 6IP @ MIA, 5 ER in 5.1 IP @ MIL, 0 ER in 3 IP @ LAD (Injury), 6 ER in 3.1 IP @ DET, 1 ER in 5 IP @ WSH. Most importantly, he has a career 6.39 ERA in 6 Starts at Coors Field. The last time he was there was back in 2021 when he was with the Dodgers. He pitched to a 1.98 ERA in 11 starts after being traded to LA. Despite that he surrendered 5 ER in 5IP @ COL.
Connor Seabold starts for the Rockies, but he just needs to pass it off to a stellar Rockies bullpen. He’s made 4 starts this year and has turned in a couple decent outings. He jst got tagged for 5 ER against the #1 scoring offense in baseball, but the Mets are far from that down at 18th. They just scored 10 runs last night but only scored 2 in the 3 games prior. Seabold’s more than capable of eating 4-5 innings and keeping it close before passing the baton.
The Rockies bullpen’s ERA doesn’t blow you away because the bad gets real bad at Coors Field but their top 5 is as good as any. Daniel Bard has a .69 ERA, he pitched yesterday but threw just 25 pitches and hasn’t thrown the 4 days prior. Brent Suter .81 ERA, he threw 5 pitches yesterday but had the day off prior. Justin Lawrence 2.33 ERA, 21 pitches yesterday but 2 days off going into it. Jake Bird 2.48 ERA, had the last 2 days off. Finally, Brad Hand’s 3.06 ERA, he’s thrown 18 pitches in the last 5 days and had yesterday off. Their closer Pierce Johnson is also 10 for 10 in Save situations.
The Rockies are also 4-1 in their last 5 games while the Mets are 4-11 their last 15 road games.
