MLB (2 Picks)
12:35pm est: Rockies ML +125 (4 Units)
Antonio Senzatela was sharp in his 2023 debut. Allowing just 1 ER on 3 hits through 5 innings of work. Was vintage Senztatela as he induced ground ball after ground ball. He faces a Pirates lineup that’s really struggling. Through 8 May games they’ve scored just 10 runs. They’re hitting .179 with an OPS of .546. They haven’t scored more than 2 runs in a game since April 29th.
Rich Hill starts for the Pirates. He has a 4.54 ERA through 7 starts. He has an xERA of 6.89 and that’s because his BRLS/PA is up at 11%. He ranks in the bottom 8% of XBA, XSLG, XWOBA, and XWOBACON. To put it plainly, he’s been very lucky. The Blue Jays tagged him for 4 Runs in 5.1 innings in his most recent start. The Rockies offense has also been humming, hitting .275 with an OPS of .809 in May.
The Rockies bullpen has also been pitching great and they have 4 good arms ready to roll. They’re 7-2 their last 9 while Pittsburgh is 1-8 in their last 9
3:45pm est: Nationals ML +140 (3 Units)
The Nationals bats couldn’t come through last night, but they weren’t without opportunities. They went 1 for 12 with Runners in Scoring Position (RISP) and left 10 guys on base. They’re usually productive, hitting .264 with RISP on the year. Top 10 in the Bigs.
Their bats get Lefty Sean Manaea today. He has a 7.55 ERA in 5 starts and 7 appearances. His last couple starts haven’t been great. Going back he gave up 4 Runs (3 Earned) in 5 IP against the Brewers. Who rank dead last offensively vs Lefties. Start prior he surrendered 5 Runs (4 Earned) against the Padres in just 2 innings.
Washington is much stronger vs Left-handed pitching too. Hitting .289 with an OPS of .751 contrary to their .243 and .641 marks vs Righties. They have a .278 average in the last week and still racked up 10 hits in yesterday’s loss.
Josiah Gray starts for the Nationals. He’s been great, 3.03 ERA in 7 starts. He just had his first not so great start since his first start of 2023, but he still allowed just 3 ER in 5 innings at Arizona. Diamondbacks bats have been hot, and Chase Field is hitter friendly when the roofs open. Could argue 1 of those 3 should have been unearned anyway. A bad fielder’s choice led to no outs and allowed a Sac Fly to drive in a run the following AB.
We’ve touched on the Giants offensive struggles, and they still only plated 4 runs yesterday. One of which came unearned. That 1st inning goes differently if the leadoff man doesn’t reach on an error. Gray made 1 start against the Giants last year at San Fran and he blanked them over 6 innings while allowing just 1 hit.
