Major League Players Club MLB (4/4/23)

MLB (2 Picks)

8:05pm est: Orioles Moneyline +125 (3 Units)

BAL SP Kyle Gibson wasn’t as bad as the stat line suggests on opening day. He allowed 2 ER through the first 5 innings before allowing the first two baserunners to reach in the 6th. He was pulled and the bullpen let both base runners score. Boston’s line-up is a bit better than these Rangers too. This marks Gibson’s 11th MLB season, there are few instances in which he doesn’t pitch well following a subpar outing. This play has more to do with the Orioles offense. They’re on fire, hitting .298 with an OPS of .942. On top of that, vs LH pitching this year; .385 BA, .484 OBP, .769 slugging. They absolutely annihilated Chris Sale. TEX SP Andrew Heaney had a “breakout” half of a season vs the Dodgers before getting hurt last year but this is a guy with a career 4.56 era. He owns a 6.75 era through spring and just gave up 5 ER in 4.2 IP in his last dress rehearsal. Batters are hitting .333 vs Heaney through spring, and he has a WHIP (Walks/Hits allowed per inning) of 1.92.

10:10pm est: Rockies ML +220 (3 Units)

Rockies SP Marquez was sharp in his first start. After a shaky first inning in which he allowed just 1 ER, he was all but lights out. He was hit with 2 ER allowed but it really shouldn’t have been. There was an easy double play to be had but 1B CJ Cron airmailed the throw. In classic Marquez fashion, the following AB ended in a Double Play. We backed him on Opening Day and won and we’re backing him again today. He had a .53 ERA in the spring and he looked the part on Opening Day. Having lost their last 3 games, and last night in blowout fashion, Colorado’s top relievers are available to back Marquez. Dodgers SP Urias can be as good as any, but he still gave up 2 ER to a D-Backs line-up that’s really struggling out of the gate. Urias also allowed 4 ER and 8 Hits in his final spring training start. COL ranked 4th in OPS in 2022 vs LH pitching and their line-up is still constructed to have another good year vs LH pitching. Good value on the Rockies again.
