Javier Assad starts for the Cubs and he's pitched very well since joining the starting rotation. He joined the rotation full time on August 5th and has made 5 starts since then. He has a 2.48 ERA since then and Chicago is a perfect 5-0 in all 5 of his starts. He also sports a 2.16 Road ERA in 9 appearances this season. He faces an ice cold Reds offense that's scored just 13 runs in their last 6 games. They're hitting .193 with a .512 OPS over those 6 games.
Reds rookie Andrew Abbott takes the mound and the Verdict is out on the young Southpaw. After a strong couple of months the MLB has caught up to him. He has a 6.67 ERA over his last 6 starts. He lasted just 3.1 innings allowing 3 ER in his last start and 4 innings allowing 4ER in the start prior.
Both bullpens are incredibly taxed following yesterday's doubleheader. Both starters will be left with a little bit longer leash than usual. It's vital that each team gets a good outing from their starter.
