These were two of the worst passing teams in the ACC a year ago but they're set to improve with new QB's. Louisville started Malik Cunningham at QB, a better runner than thrower. Same thing for Georgia Tech last year with Jeff Sims under center. Cunningham went undrafted this off-season and Sims transferred to Nebraska and started last night. Completing 11 of 19 passes for 114 yards with 1 TD and 3 interceptions. His lone TD pass came on a trick play to a wide open WR too.

Louisville will start transfer Jack Plummer. He started for Cal last year completing 282 of 451 pass attempts (62.5%) for 3,119 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. He spent the 3 seasons prior at Purdue under Louisville's new head coach Jeff Brohm and his Air Raid System. The offensive minded Brohm spent 6 years with Purdue. His brother Brian was his QB's coach all 6 years and joins him in Lousiville. Brohm is a hometown favorite as one of their best collegiate QB's in program history.

Plummer gets to work with a much better receiving room than he ever had at Cal. The Cardinals return 2 of their top 3 pass catchers from last year and brought in even more talent through the transfer portal. Namely 4-⭐ Jamari Thrash from Georgia State. He reeled in 61 passes for 1,112 yards and 2 touchdowns last season. Jahwar Jordan also returns to lead the Louisville backfield. He's an explosive back that averaged 5.7 yards per carry in 2022. They face a GT defense that ranked 12 in total defense for the ACC last year.

Georgia Tech starts former A&M QB Haynes King. He was named starter for the Aggies in 2021 but an early injury cost him that season. He was again named starter in 2022 but would eventually lose his job as the Aggies offense struggled in 2022. Things didn't get much better in his absence. A&M finished 2nd to last in points per game in the SEC last season.

King spent 3 years at A&M refining his craft against one of the best defensive units in College Football. A&M has ranked in the top 4 in points per game in the SEC every year since he arrived in 2020. Last season he completed 104 of 187 pass attempts (55.6%) for 1,220 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. However going from an SEC schedule to an ACC schedule is like comparing the Junior Varsity team to the Varsity team. The game should really slow down for him.

Tech also returns 4 of their 5 starting offensive lineman from last year. Louisville's defense did have success getting after the QB last year but most of that damage was done by blitzing linebackers. With the new coaching staff they switched from the attacking 3-4 style defense to a more traditional 4-3. They lost 28.5 of their 49 sacks from a season ago to either the NFL draft or the transfer portal. There's only 2 Cardinals on this roster that had more than 2.5 sacks last year. Safe to say they won't be nearly as successful getting home. All in all Louisville only returns 50% of it's defensive production from a year ago.

Buster Faulkner is calling plays for the Yellow Jackets offense now after spending his last 3 years winning 2 National Championships with Georgia. It was a homerun hire for former GT interim HC Brent Key who was officially given the job this past off-season. He went 4-4 in 8 games as interim HC with wins over Duke, Pitt, and North Carolina. All of who won 9 games last season.
