NFL Futures: (DET) David Montgomery Over 6.5 Rushing Touchdowns -110 (4 Units)
David Montgomery was signed as a Free agent after playing out his rookie contract with Chicago. He and rookie Jahmyr Gibbs will replace D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams. Gibbs is an elusive receiving back set to replace Swift in the passing game while Montgomery fills Williams void in short yardage situations. Swift had 5 rushing touchdowns last year and Williams 17.
The Lions ranked 4th in total offense last year and they have even more talent this year. 12th overall pick Jahmyr Gibbs is more dynamic than Swift and David Montgomery is a reliable + sized back. Although suspended for the first 6 games, Jameson Williams will bolster the WR room after playing just 78 snaps in his rookie season. They drafted TE Sam LaPorta out of Iowa with the 34th overall pick. And they brought back their former 3rd round pick in 2016; OL Graham Glasnow. He reinforces an OL that allowed the 2nd fewest sacks in 2022. They're also entering year 2 under Offensive Coordinator ben Johnson's coaching scheme.
Their offense is going to be good. They will find themselves in plenty more goal to go situations and David Montgomery is the man for the job. Williams had the role last season and ran for 17. Gibbs just doesn't have the size for those goal line carries at 5'9 200. 3rd stringer Craig Reynolds has 76 carreer carries in 4 seasons. Not a single TD. Then there's Jermar Jefferson with 15 career carries. If he even make the roster.
