7:00PM EST: Saint Joseph's -14.5 (4 Units).
St. Joe's plays an American Eagles team that just isn't on their level. This Veteran Hawks team looks like a potential NCAA Tournament team and one that could compete. We had them when they destroyed Villanova (CLICK HERE) in Nova but they also nearly beat Kentucky. They probably should have won that game against Kentucky as well. They've won 3 straight and are coming off a 9-point win Over a decent Temple squad on the road. They return Home to a friendly match-up.
American has some ugly losses on their resume. They lost to Nova by 27, William & Mary by 19, and lost outright to arguably the worst team in CBB Saint Francis their last time out despite laying 13.5 points. They simply aren't very good at Basketball and are in the bottom third if not 4th of all College Basketball teams. Ken Pom has them ranked 295th. Saint Francis was ranked 356th of 362.
Touched on it last time but the Hawks love their 3-Ball. They have multiple + shooters from outside and this American defense struggles. They're allowing teams to shoot 36% from behind the Arc, 290th in CBB. They also haven't played very many great shooting teams either. Part of the reason why their opponent effective FG% is 56.1% and 336th in the Nation. Point Man Lynn Greer III is going to carve up the American defense. Kentucky and Nova couldn't prevent him from penetrating and putting stress on the defense, American won't.
American also turns the ball over on 17.9% of possessions (207th), St. Joe's averages a steal on 10% of possessions and 7.4 per game. Their sharpshooting Trio have quick hands and they don't just get their shots up quick; they take the ball away. Their defense ranks 26th in effective opponent FG% as well.
These teams are just on 2 different levels of basketball. As long as the Hawks don't sleepwalk into this knowing they're the better team, they should blow the doors off. With this game being at Home following a 10-day absence, we like them to come out ready.
