Rick Pitino's Red Storm is poised to explode offensively here. Holy Cross has given up a ton of points a few times this year. They allowed 83 to Elon, 89 to Winthrop, and 84 to Sacred Heart. Neither of those teams are very good. They also scored just 69 against Elon and 51 to Winthrop. St. John's is more talanted and better coached than everyone Holy Cross has played.
Rick Pitino's formula is no secret. His teams move fast and they shoot a lot of Three's. He has the Red Storm shooting a stellar 39.7% from deep so far this first season. They attempt over 23 3-point shots per game as well. This Holy Cross defense ranks 350th out of 362 Division 1 schools allowing teams to shoot 41.4% from beyond the Arc. They just don't defend the perimeter well. They also don't have a player over 6'6. Joel Soriano is only one of the best bigs in the Country and he's a load down there. Pick your poison for Holy Cross. Either let the big man eat or crash and double. If it's the latter don't be shocked to see St. John's approach 30 attempted 3's in this game.
This is also St. John's first Home game since November 7th. Always feels good to play at Home, especially following a long absence. If you're going to run it up and put on a show you do that at Home in front of your fans.
