CFB Free Pick: Alabama -2.5

Keelon Russell has turned Alabama into the most efficient offense in the country, and he's peaking at exactly the right time. The Crimson Tide rank No. 1 nationally in offensive success rate and No. 2 in net adjusted EPA per play, and Russell is the driving force. He's completing 71.2% of his passes for 1,414 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just two interceptions, with 10 of those touchdown passes coming in his last three games. Last week against Mississippi State, he went 16-for-22 for 285 yards and three scores while adding a touchdown on the ground, and his Heisman odds jumped from +1600 to +750 in a single week.

Georgia's defense hasn't faced anything like this yet. The Bulldogs haven't allowed more than 20 points in a game, but the advanced numbers paint a different picture: Georgia ranks 67th nationally in net adjusted EPA per play on defense and 69th in EPA per pass. That's a clear soft spot for an Alabama attack that ranks ninth in the country in EPA per pass and has already handled quality opponents in Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida State, and Mississippi State.

Georgia is also short-handed on offense. Running back Chauncey Bowens, who led the team in carries last week against Vanderbilt, has been ruled out. That puts more on Nate Frazier, who is off the injury report but carried just twice last week after missing time with an injury of his own. Wide receiver Thomas Blackshear (shoulder) is out as well, and fellow receiver Isiah Canion is questionable. It all leaves Gunner Stockton with fewer weapons for a night game in Tuscaloosa against the best offense Georgia has seen this season.

The market has taken notice. Georgia was a 3-point favorite in early lines, but bettors quickly flipped the number and have kept pushing it toward Alabama all week, with the Tide now laying 2.5 at home. The weather is cooperating, too, as the latest forecasts have the worst of Hurricane Isaias clearing Tuscaloosa by kickoff, good news for an offense built on Russell's arm. Kalen DeBoer has already won two of his three meetings with Kirby Smart, and this time he gets the Bulldogs under the lights at Bryant-Denny.

Bottom Line: Alabama has the hottest quarterback in the country, the more efficient offense, and home-field advantage against a banged-up Georgia team whose defense hasn't been tested like this. Lean Alabama -2.5.
