This is a brutal match-up for San Jose State. They've been run all over through to start the season and now face one of, if not the best rushing attack in the Nation. The Air Force Triple Option ranked first averaging 310.1 rushing yards per game in 2022 and are averaging 294 through 3 games this season.
They just ran for 344 on Utah State last week and that game was 39-7 after Air Force's first drive in the 2nd half. Their number 2's saw plenty of snaps. The San Jose State defense is letting up an average of 199 rushing yards per game against FBS opponents. That ranks 115th out of the 133 FBS programs. Toledo ran for 229, Oregon State ran for 200, and USC ran for 168.
The Air Force defense is also stout. They allowed a combined 10 points in their first 2 games before allowing 21 to Utah State last week. 14 of those points came after AF took that commanding 39-7 lead. In their last two games against FBS opponents, San Jose State has scored 17 points twice. Their offense only scored 10 points against Toledo last time out. Their defense came away with a pick six. They also scored a TD with just 4 seconds remaining against Oregon State's back-ups in true garbage time.
Their offense isn't going to get very many possessions either. The Air Force Triple Option keeps the clock rolling and the opposing offense on the sidelines. Air Force ranked first in time of possession in 2022.
