The Flames are a much better basketball team than people realize. Coming just a bucket away from an NCAA Tournament bid. Per Ken Pom rankings Liberty ranks 48th nationally while Nova ranks 60th. Despite missing the NCAA Tournament this is still a huge moment for the Liberty program. Earning their first ever NIT Tournament invitation in school history. On the flip side this is Nova’s first NIT appearance since 2004… Serious disappointment for a Wildcats program that’s used to contending for National Championships just about every year under previous HC Jay Wright. Liberty’s also playing at home, where they’re 18-1 SU and 13-3 ATS. On the road Nova’s just 5-8 SU and 7-6 ATS. The Flames will also have the best player on the court, Darius Mcghee. The kid is a flat out baller, named ASUN’s player of the year 3 straight seasons. Averaging 22.5 points per game while shooting 40% from deep. As a whole this Liberty team loves the long ball, attempting 27.3 3’s per game (9th most) while sinking 37.5% of them (29th). Nova ranks 153rd in 3-point defense and that falls to 185th when playing on the road. It’s a great spot to back the Flames. This is like their Superbowl. First NIT game in program history and they get a shot at a historically great program in Villanova. On the other side this game’s near meaningless. Nobody goes to Villanova to play in the NIT Tournament… We also have both NCAA Tournament games today.
