Runline: Cardinals +1.5 (-160) / Brewers -1.5 (+145)

The Cardinals and Brewers open up a 4-game set with a pair of Aces on the mound tonight. Cardinals come into this 3-1 and on a day’s rest due to yesterdays rain out vs the Royals. The Brewers sit at 3-3 and are playing their 6th straight game in as many days. Early ramifications for an NL Central that should remain a tight race year long.
Longtime Cardinals Ace Adam Wainwright takes the mound for St. Louis in this one. He picked up where he left off last year in his first start this season. He threw 6 scoreless innings against the Pirates on opening day without issuing a walk. He’s made a career out of shutting down the Brew Crew and last year was no exception. He made 5 starts against the Brewers last year and allowed more than 2ER in just one start.
Brandon Woodruff will start for Milwaukee. He’s coming off the best season of his career in 2021, pitching to an impressive 2.56 era across 30 starts. However he’s simply not in Ace form just yet. In his first regular season start against the Cubs he allowed 6 hits, 5 free passes, and 7 ER. Even going back to spring training, he allowed more than 4 ER in all 3 starts.
Things won’t get any easier for Woodruff today, the Cardinals offense is cooking to open the season. They rank 2nd in the MLB with an OPS of .871. The Brewers offense meanwhile is hitting just .212 with an OPS of .640 which ranks 22nd. The Cardinals bullpen is also fresh and rested coming off a day’s rest. Brewers Bullpen has been taxed for 5 straight and Closer Josh Hader will most likely sit this one out after throwing back-to-back nights.
