Tuesday night MACtion! The Ohio Bobcats take on the Ball State Cardinals. Ohio looks to hold the top spot in the east while Ball State fights for Bowl eligibility. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00p.m. eastern time at Scheumann Stadium.
The Pick
Ball State +4. The Cardinals match-up well against the Bobcats. Ohio has the best passing offense in the Conference but defensively Ball State ranks 2nd in the conference allowing just 217.3 yards per game. The weakness for the Cardinals defense is on the ground but Ohio doesn’t like to run, ranking 9th in the MAC in rushing YPG. Offensively the Cardinals should have no issue running up and down the field with the MAC’s best runner, Carson Steele. The Bobcats defense allows 465 total yards per game and 149 comes on the ground. He’s been rolling the past couple weeks, running for 198 and 3 touchdowns at Toledo and 192 yards and 1 touchdown at Kent State. Both run defenses are comparable to Ohio’s and now Ball State is playing at home. They will also be able to throw if need be, Ohio is dead last in the conference allowing 316.2 passing yards per game and while it’s been a back and forth year for QB John Paddock, he’s played well against bad pass defenses. He threw for 242 and 2 touchdowns vs Kent State (they allow 280.3 passing YPG), 403 yards and 3 touchdowns vs NIU (253.7) and 338 yards and 2 touchdowns vs Georgia Southern (254.7). In a big game at home, needing a win for bowl eligibility, back the Cardinals.
