Philadelphia's passing game is getting a shake-up this week, and the rookie first-rounder sits right in the middle of it. DeVonta Smith (hamstring), Hollywood Brown (ankle), and tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) are all out, taking three of Jalen Hurts' most trusted targets off the field. The Eagles' own team site says Lemon and Dontayvion Wicks will both take on bigger roles, but Lemon is the one built to soak up volume. Wicks is the vertical threat, averaging nearly 20 yards per catch, while Lemon does his work in the short and intermediate areas where receptions pile up.
His role was already trending upward before Smith went down. Lemon ran a route on nearly 84% of dropbacks last week and lined up in the slot on 73% of his snaps, the spot that draws the quick, high-percentage throws offenses use to stay on schedule. With Smith sidelined, many of the looks that normally go his way now shift to the rookie, and Lemon hasn't dropped a pass all season. When the ball comes his way, he's catching it.
The game script should work in his favor, too. The Rams lead the NFL in total yards per game and are expected to get Puka Nacua back, so Philadelphia will likely need to keep throwing to keep pace. Los Angeles will also be without starting cornerback Jaylen Watson (shoulder), leaving a backup on the field for the Eagles to target.
Bottom Line: With Smith, Brown, and Goedert all out, Lemon steps into the biggest role of his young career against a short-handed Rams secondary, in a game where Philadelphia will likely have to throw to keep up. Lean Makai Lemon Over 3.5 receptions.
