Cole Ragans makes his third start since joining KC via the Aroldis Chapman trade. He made a spot start on July 15th and threw 5 innings of 1 run ball. He officially joined the rotation a week ago when the Royals traded away Ryan Yarbrough. He shutout the Mets over 6 innings last week. He's added a slider that's just a few MPH slower than his cutter. It's helped him put away left handed batters. The Red Sox best bats are lefty. BOS ranks 14th in OPS vs LHP compared to 7th vs RHP. They're averaging just 3 runs per game over their last 9 games and have scored 3 or less in 7.
Brayan Bello is struggling for BOS. He finished July with a 5.48 ERA and gave up 4 ER on 6IP in his one August start vs SEA. He's allowed at least 3 ER in each of his last 4 starts. This KC Royals offense continues to swing a hot bat. They have a .279 BA and .787 OPS in August thus far and are hitting .276 with a .788 OPS the last two weeks. They've scored 4 or more runs in all but one of their last 9 games and are averaging 6.3 Runs Per Game during that span.
The Royals bullpen is also freshly rested. The few decent arms they have left will be available if needed. The Red Sox bullpen on the other hand had a bullpen day yesterday and got crushed 13-1. They pitched 6 relievers, 4 of them gave up runs. The bullpen was also asked to get 5 outs on Saturday when BOS had their weird Nick Pivetta day. He only pitched 4 innings though. Every BOS reliever has pitched in the last two days.
