CHC SP Justin Steele hasn't been nearly as sharp as he was in the beginning of the year. He has a 4.96 ERA through 3 August starts, allowing 3ER in all 3. His BA against is .310 and WHIP 1.59. His GO/AO ratio is also .81 compared to his 1.22 on the season. Batters are driving the ball in the air more. Bad day for that at Wrigley with 14MPH winds blowing out to left center. No stadium's more effected by the wind then Wrigley.
Steele's approaching unprecedented territory as a starter. When you hear the term "innings limit" it's referring to this. He's pitched 126 innings this season and 119 last year. He threw more than 78 innings in 7 minor league seasons just once and never more than 100. The long drag of an MLB season pushes young pitchers Arms into innings pitcher totals they're unfamiliar with and unconditioned for. A lot of young pitchers arms flame out towards the end of a season. The same goes for old Veterans that don't recover quite as well.
The KC Royals offense has been legitimately good for a while now. They've scored 4 or more runs in 7 straight games ad are hitting .316 over the past week. They rank 2nd in BA since the All-Star break and in the Month of August trailing the Atlanta Braves in both. Great hitting conditions at the park.
