CWS Starter Michael Kopech is on the struggle bus. He has a 6.0 ERA in his last 7 starts, finished July with a 6.61 ERA and currently has a 5.59 ERA through 2 August starts. Command is a major issue, issuing a whopping 30 walks in his last 30 IP (L7 Starts). He's also allowed 28 Hits, bringing his WHIP to 1.93. Colorado's Coors Field is just the wrong place to be struggling.
The ball simply doesn't move as much in the high altitude. Kopech throws his 4 seam fastball 62.8% of the time. Mainly because his fastball ranks in the 94th percentile of spin rate. That simply doesn't translate at Coors. For Kopech, as a RHP, his fastball won't run in arm side as much as he's accustomed to. Simply put, his fastball will be easier to hit. Not as much life on it.
Offensively the Rockies can always hit at home. Despite ranking 21st in OPS on the season, they slide in at 9th when playing at Home.
COL starts Peter Lambert. He has a 5.46 ERA this season and that's pretty much who he is. He does have a 3.86 ERA in his last 6 and made a Quality Start in LA against the Dodgers his last time out. With Colorado getting the day off yesterday we're just looking for him to pass it off with the game in tact.
The White Sox offense hasn't provided much resistance either. They currently rank 27th in OPS for the Month of August while averaging just 3.7 runs per game. They're also batting .222 with a .607 OPS over their last 4 games. They've scored just 13 runs in those 4. When batting on the road the CWS rank 26th.
