Right back on the Halos. They couldn't come through last night but they weren't without opportunities. Going 0-7 with RISP and leaving 11 guys on bases doesn't get the job done. Especially going 0-5 with the bases juiced. Unfortunately Ohtani tweaked something and got pinch hit in the 9th with the bases loaded. He's back in the lineup today though.
Get a much easier opponent to start the game with today though. Alek Manoah's struggles are well documented and it hasn't been much better since getting recalled from his demotion. He had a nice start @ DET when he got called back up but proceeded to struggle in the next two. He allowed 4 ER in 3IP at Home vs SD then 3 ER in 5.1 IP @ SEA. He's really struggled at Home, posting a 9.0 ERA in 8 Home Starts.
He's walked 9 batters and hit 1 batsman in his last two games combined. He's completed 5 innings in just 2 of his 8 home starts and that Blue Jays bullpen did a whole lot of bending last night, just didn't break. Their closer left last night's game with back tightness as well. That Angels offense is still clicking and the inability to come through against one of the AL's best Starters isn't enough to sell us on them going cold.
Reid Detmers gets the start for LAA and after a stellar month of June he's faltered a bit in July. Really just one bad start against the Dodgers while the rest have been decent. 2 ER on 5IP last time out, 4 ER in 6IP vs HOU, and 2 ER on 6IP vs AZ. He made one start at Toronto last season and pitched 5.1 scoreless innings. Toronto is also worse offensively vs LHP. They rank 17th in OPS vs LHP compared to ranking 9th vs RHP.
