Two Lefties going up against offenses that hit LHP well. The Angels rank 6th and the Cubs 7th in OPS vs LHP. Drew Smyly starts for the Cubs and he’s having a decent season with a 3.56 ERA. Going back he allowed 3 ER in 5.2 IP @ SD last time out. Giving up 7 Hits and walking 3. He allowed 5 ER on 7 Hits and 2 Walks in 4.2 IP vs CIN. Then 2 ER on 4 Hits and 2 Walks in 5 IP vs NYM. His road ERA stands at 3.6 but his BA against is at .261 compared to .189 at home. He’s escaped some Jams. The Length is an issue as the Cubs bullpen has been horrendous. Their 4.62 ERA ranks 25th and only the A’s have fewer saves.
The 0-5 Reid Deitmers starts for the Angels. He’s allowed at least 3 ER in 5 of his last 6 starts. 5.9 ERA across his last 6. He’s also only gone deeper than 5 innings in one of those starts. 5.2 IP allowing 3 ER vs the Twins. He gave up 4 ER in 5IP vs HOU last time out and 3 ER in 5 IP vs MIA the start. In those two starts he’s allowed 18 to reach base successfully. The Angels bullpen has been solid for them this year, but recent injuries have come into play. Jamie Barria has been thrust back into a starters role and Matt Moore landed on the IL at the end of May. That’s 2 of their top 3 relivers. Only Carlos Estevez has thrown more innings than those two. Every Angels reliever has also thrown the past 2 days as well.

Angels’ stadium is the 5th most HR friendly ballpark of the last few years. The Over’s also 6-2 in the Angels last 8 games and it’s 13-3 in the Cubs last 16 interleague games.
