Josiah Gray has pitched lights out on the road, 2.48 ERA in 10 road starts. He threw 5.1 shutout innings at San Diego in his most recent start. No small task either, his last 3 road starts came @ SD, @ HOU, and @ ATL. He allowed a total of 5 ER in those 3. He's allowed more than 2 ER in just 1 of his 10 road starts and in Houston. He fell victim to some tough luck during that game. Highlighted that when we hit the Nats in his most recent start. WSH is 4-1 in their L5, a run that started with Gray and has all come on the road.
Christopher Sanchez makes his 7th career start tonight. This is his just his 3rd start of 2023 and it's been underwhelming. He allowed 3ER at home vs COL in his debut. Shutout the A's @ OAK in 4 IP (A's for ya). Then gave up 3 ER across 5IP in his most recent starts vs the Mets. All great matchups. All 3 of those teams struggle vs LHP too. The Mets are the top ranked team at 20th in OPS vs LHP.
Washington slides in at 8th vs LHP and that rank has been climbing. Their .281 BA vs LHP ranks 4th. Their also swinging the bats well, scoring 4+ in 4 straight games while tallying a combined 38 Hits and 14 Walks. They're seeing the ball well. Philly's bullpen is also tied for 18th with a 4.04 ERA. Nationals will get chances to score after Sanchez leaves the game.
