David Peterson has been awful in 2023. He’s 1-5 in 7 starts with a 7.68 ERA. We just took advantage of that when he faced the Reds on May 9th. He was called up when Scherzer was a late scratch. He made 1 start in AAA and allowed 4 ER in 5 innings. The Nationals bats are hitting .251 in the last week, but they excel vs LHP. Their .782 OPS vs LHP is tied for 6th and their .297 BA ranks 3rd in 2023. Peterson gave up 7ER in 2 starts and 10IP vs the Nationals in 2022.
Patrick Corbin starts vs WSH and he’s pitching well. He hasn’t allowed more than 3 ER in 5 straight starts. Despite pitching to a 5.82 ERA in 2021 and a 6.31 ERA in 2022, he held the Mets to 3ER or less in 5 of his 8 starts in the last 2 years. Offensively the Mets rank 21st vs Lefties with an OPS of .713. They also rank 24th overall in the Month of May. Their offensive struggles are no secret. Failing to score more than 3 runs in 8 of their last 11 games.
