Yes, backing Brady Singer and his 8.82 ERA. There were high hopes for Singer coming into 2023 and all hope isn’t lost. He pitched to a 3.11 ERA in 24 starts last year. He made his MLB Debut in 2020 and has a career 4.4 ERA in 70 starts. He did have a 2.13 ERA through 4 spring starts (12.2 IP). He’s made a pair of strong starts this season. 1 ER in 5 IP in his 2023 debut vs Toronto then 1 ER on 6 IP in Arizona on April 25th. He won both games.
This is a good spot for another strong start. He’s made 3 Home starts against the White Sox since 2021. Allowing just 1 Run in 21.1 Innings Pitched. He pitched 7 innings in each one. Offensively the White Sox numbers look solid through May, but they’re inflated by a 17-run game against the Reds. Excluding that they’ve scored 30 runs in 8 games. That’s 3.75 runs per game and that would rank 28th on the year.
On the flip side Mike Clevinger starts for the White Sox. He has a 4.84 ERA in 7 starts but a 5.91 ERA in 4 road starts. In his last 2 road starts, 10 ER in 11 IP. The Royals offense is the hottest offense in baseball. Since May they’re hitting .302 with an OPS of .931. Next closest is Arizona with an OPS of .861. They’ve scored 5+ in 7 of their 9 games, 4 in one of the others, then 2 against Gioloto.
The White Sox bullpen is also awful if Clevinger doesn’t go deep, 6.21 ERA (29th). The Royals bullpen is rested after Jordan Lyles pitched 9 innings 2 days ago. The Royals also blew out the White Sox 12-5 the game prior, so the high leverage arms weren’t needed. Their best arms are ready to go.
