2 Picks...
FOLLOW THE UNIT INSTRUCTIONS. ASK IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND.
1:05PM EST: KC/BAL Under 7.5 (3 Units).
Cole Ragans starts for KC. The former first round pick had a 2.64 ERA in 12 starts last season and limited the Twins to 2 runs while striking out 9 over 6 IP in his 2024 debut. The Orioles offense beat up on the Angels in the first two games of the season but they've been subpar since. Former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes starts for BAL and he was dominant in the O's Home Opener. Allowing 1 Run on 1 Hit (Solo HR by Trout) while striking out 11 over 6 innings. He didn't walk a single batter either. Pitcher's Weather at Camden Yards. Cold, Rainy, and 15+ MPH winds blowing in from Center.
3:40PM EST: NYY/AZ Over 8.5 (3 Units).
Couple Aces squaring off, but we like the offensive matchups. NYY starter Carlos Rodon battled injuries in 2023 and pitched to a 6.85 ERA over 14 starts. He posted a 4.19 ERA in spring and allowed just 1 run over 4.1 IP in his season debut. He gave up 5 Hits and walked 3 though. The Astros just couldn't cash in, and tough luck played a part. Rodon had an xERA of 6.24 from that start but an actual ERA of 2.08. He recorded just 1 ground ball out too. He was hit hard and, in the air, just right at defenders. The Diamondbacks have an .865 OPS on the young season, 2nd behind Atlanta. Playing the Rockies certainly helps but all their hottest bats have smashed left-handed pitching throughout their career. If Rodon pitches like he did against Houston he's going to struggle.
Merrill Kelly starts for the Diamondbacks. He handled the Rockies in his debut, but this Yankees lineup is significantly better and very patient. Kelly's had walk issues throughout his career and his 3.5 BB/9 was the 8th highest mark among qualified starters in 2023. The Yankees were 8th in walks per game last year and are currently 3rd this season. The addition of Juan Soto certainly helps. Kelly did pitch against NY last season and allowed 2 Runs over 5 IP and 93 pitches thrown. He walked just 2 but they made him work and they'll be patient again today.
Both bullpens are pretty taxed coming into this game and AZ just used their high leverage guys in their win last night. Ball should have some carry on it with the Dome open at Chase Field and 80° weather today.
