3 Picks (10 Units).
6:40PM EST: Pirates ML +110 (3 Units).
LP: J. Verlander (SF) / J. Oviedo (PIT).
Verlander had a 5.4 ERA in 5 July starts and has a 4.68 ERA over his last 7. He's pitched past the 5th inning in just 2 of his last 9 appearances. The Giants bullpen isn’t nearly as strong as it was after trading Taylor Rogers and Camilo Doval at the deadline. 2 of their top 3 arms also threw yesterday. PIT SP Johan Oviedo is making his first MLB appearance since 2023. He’s made 6 rehab starts, posting a 2.16 ERA in his last 5. The Pirates bullpen isn't great but it's fresh. Pittsburgh's offense is also rolling with some confidence after an explosive trip to Colorado. The Pirates have the advantage of having seen Verlander in SF last week, plating 1 ER on 6 hits and 1 walk across 5 IP.
7:10PM EST: Guardians ML +170 (3 Units).
LP: S. Cecconi (CLE).
Cecconi's been dealing for the Guardians, allowing 3ER or less in 11 of 13 starts. All but 1 of his 5 July starts were quality. The outlier was that blowout win over the Athletics in which he allowed 3 ER through 8 IP but came out for the 9th and allowed 3 more. The Mets are 28th in BA and 24th in OPS since the All-Star Break. NYM SP Sean Manaea is making his 5th start of the year. He's been sharp in his first 4, allowing 1 ER in each. He just has yet to pitch past the 5th inning. The Guardians are 7th with a .787 OPS since the break. They're 3rd in BA (.293) and 7th in OPS (.822) over the last 7 days too.
8:40PM EST: Rockies ML +180 (4 Units).
LP: E. Lauer (TOR) / T. Gordon (COL).
TOR SP Eric Lauer has a 12.73 ERA in 7 career starts at Coors Field. It's a Venue even the best pitchers struggle in, and some guys just can't figure it out. The Blue Jays bullpen has struggled since the All-Star Break, with only 3 relievers holding an ERA below 4.5. One of which is their closer who's thrown each of the last 2 days. Another has thrown 2 of the last 3 days and the 3rd is fresh. The hot summer weather and consistent winds blowing out has Coors Field in its full glory. The Rockies are 2nd in OPS since the All-Star Break and have scored 5 or more runs in 9 of 15 Games. They've won all 3 of their Home Series since the break and combined to score 63 runs in those 9 games. They've scored 5 or more in 7 of the 9 Home games. COL SP Tanner Gordon has made 3 starts at Home for the Rockies this year. He allowed 4 ER on 6 IP vs Detroit in his first, 2 ER on 6 IP vs NYY in his 2nd, and 0 ER on 6 IP in his most recent vs STL. No Blue Jays player has faced Gordon before. Toronto's failed to score more than 4 runs in 7 of their last 8 games.
