MLB
2 Picks.
12:05PM: SD/WSH Under 9 (2 Units). SD SP Dylan Cease has allowed just 1 hit in each of his last 2 starts. His last start before the break he tossed 6 scoreless at Home against Atlanta while striking out 11. Then he tossed 7 scoreless on the road in Cleveland on Saturday, striking out 10 more. He went 7 innings allowing 3 ER 3 starts back as well. He tossed 7 scoreless 1 hit innings against these Nationals on June 26th. WSH SP Patrick Corbin has a 3.89 ERA over his last 7 starts and hasn't allowed more than 4 runs in any of them. He's actually pitched pretty well for Washington the majority of this season. When he struggles, he gets hit around but he's allowed 3ER or less in 10 of his last 14 starts and 4ER or less in 12 of them. He's also allowed just 5 ER in his last 3 Home Starts combined. Washington's top relievers are all fresh having lost the first 2 games of this set decisively and a scheduled day off Monday.
7:10PM: NY Mets ML -110 (3 Units). ATL SP Chris Sale is as good as they come but he hasn't pitched since July 14th. It's a long absence that's been pushed back further because of rain outs. He was cruising going into the All-Star break and this long between starts isn't ideal. Regardless this play isn't being made in hopes he's just off. The Mets are one of the hottest teams in baseball, averaging 5 runs per game in the Month of July. They've won 3 straight including back-to-back games against the Yankees. They put up 12 runs last night with 6 of them coming off Gerrit Cole. They rank 2nd in OPS against LHP this season with a .783 OPS. The Dodgers are first at .784. Sale on his best day will have his work cutout for him and he's failed to complete 6 innings in 7 of his 18 starts this year. NYM SP Luis Severino has a 2.82 ERA in 10 Home Starts this year. He's allowed 2ER or less in 7 of his last 9 Home Starts and 1ER in 5. He's also allowed just 2 ER in his last 2 starts combined (12 IP). This Braves offense continues to disappoint, ranking 23rd in OPS in the Month of July. Atlanta's also 1-4 since the All-Star Break with 4 straight losses. They've scored just 15 runs over that span.
