Catching some good value on Minnesota as they look to avoid a 3-game sweep against New York. Minnesota's scored just 1 run through the first 2 games of this series, getting shut out last night. It's a big reason why they're just -115 today. They actually swung the bats well last night, just hit into some tough luck. They recorded 14 Hard-Hit balls at a 56% clip, sending a few to the warning track. 11MPH winds blowing out today instead of in like yesterday to help carry these balls a bit further. Clarke Schmidt's on the mound and he's fresh off his best start of the season. It was the first scoreless outing he's had and the first time he's completed 6 innings. Like him to regress here. For starters he has a 4.13 ERA compared to his actual 2.95 ERA, so he's been a bit lucky. He's really struggled against Lefties, allowing a .303 opponent BA and 1.66 WHIP. The Twins have 4 true lefties in the lineup along with 2 switch hitters.
Joe Ryan starts for the Twins, and he hasn't allowed more than 3 ER in a start this season. His 3.2 BB% is one of the best in baseball, as is his 2.51 xERA. He made two starts against the Yankees last year, allowing 1ER over 7IP in each. This is certainly a different Yankees lineup but Ryan's also pitching the best he ever has. He has all the best Twins relievers behind him as well after dropping the first 2 games of this series. Odds are he allows a Homer to someone with his pitching style and the Yankees slugging but with a .99 WHIP he does a good limiting that damage.
