NYM SP Paul Blackburn has allowed 1 ER on 6 IP exactly in 3 of his 4 Mets starts since being acquired by Oakland. His 1 bad start came against his former club that he spent 8 MLB seasons with. SD has just 21 career at bats against Blackburn and most of them came years ago when former SD players were with different ball clubs. Blackburn's pitched in the AL his entire career before joining the Mets at the deadline. With unfamiliarity on his side, we trust he pitches like he has the majority of his time with NY, instead of the Outlier. SD SP Joe Musgrove is making his 3rd start since coming off the IL. He's allowed 1 run combined in the 2 starts prior. The current Mets roster has a .220 BA and .301 wOBA in 128 career plate appearances against him.
Both bullpens are in great shape, and these are very important games. The Mets are 1.5 Games back from a wildcard spot and just 4.5 games back from SD's spot. NY took game 1 of this 4-game set in decisive fashion which allowed them to save closer Edwin Diaz. None of their high leverage arms have pitched more than once in the last 3 days. San Diego's lost 2 straight games and as such given their top 4 relievers each of the last 2 days off. This will play like a playoff game tonight.
