Right back to the well. This is a rematch of Game 1 when Zach Wheeler tossed a gem and Gallen struggled. We hit on the Over that day but we like Gallen to rebound. He's struggled on the road all year but at Home he's one of baseball's best, posting a 2.47 ERA across 16 starts. Philly also saw a version of him that's simply not his true self. He didn't have anywhere close to his best stuff. Phillies eyes will register one thing but reality will be a different story. He has 120 strikeouts over 102IP at Home this year. This is his 4th post-season start but 1st at Home. He's going to have a fired up crowd behind him in the biggest game of the series.
Phillies offense has struggled in two games at Arizona. They did score 5 runs yesterday but D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo did them a favor. Reliver Salfraank let up two 100MPH lasers in the top of the 5th. One of them was a go ahead double and another a loud out. For some reason he let him walk the bases loaded without recording an out in the top of the 6th. He also walked 2 of the 3 batters he saw in game 3 too. Philly only cashed in on 2 of those runs with no outs and it came courtesy of an infield single and an error. They're 2 for 11 with RISP with 9 players left on base through 2 games in Arizona.
Philly's going to regret blowing the last couple games. Arizona's struggled to come up with the big hit with runners on but it hasn't mattered. Alek Thomas came up with the hit of the series last night but through 2 Home games Arizona 's 7 for 23 with 21 guys left on base. 7 for 23 isn't bad but 21 guys left on base is. They just aren't catching that big swing but that will change. When they do get hits with guys on base it's been singles. A couple big swings and they're blowing Philly out in these games. They're going to come through with 1 eventually and Philly messed up letting them hang around without it.
Zach Wheeler is going to be tough to get to but it's the second time they're facing him. He was also lights out and firing on all cylinders in his first art. They still managed to score 2 runs but this one's on the road for him. It's also tough to replicate. When you're on and everything's working, you don't really have to change much going into the 2nd start. The problem is pitchers don't always have their A+ stuff every start. He didn't go a Month all year without some sort of lesser start. He hasn't had one yet in the post-season and it's start number 4. Arizona's offense is knocking at the door for a breakout.
Both bullpens are heavily taxed following yesterday's game. The Starter that can go deep into this game is going to give his team a much better chance to win. Gallen averages 6.1IP per game at Home this season. They'll ask him to go deeper than that if he can.
