The 2022 NFL pre-season kicks off with the Jacksonville Jaguars vs the Las Vegas Raiders in the Hall of Fame Game August 4th. The game will be played at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, Canton, Ohio with kickoff scheduled for 8PM Eastern.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are eager to turn over a new leaf after firing Urban Meyer following a tumultuous 2021 season ridden with controversy that saw them win just 3 games. Jacksonville got after it in Free Agency looking to bolster new HC Doug Pederson and 2nd year QB Trevor Lawrence’s offense by acquiring WR Christian Kirk, TE Evan Engram, and G Brandon Scherff. They followed up the offensive FA with defense with both of their first round picks taking Georgia’s Travon Walker, EDGE, #1 Overall and Utah’s Devin Lloyd, LB, #20.
The Las Vegas Raiders are looking to make the leap to Super Bowl contenders after a 2021 season that ended against the NFC Champion Bengals in the wild card round of the playoffs. Las Vegas also went through it’s own roller coaster ride last year with the Gruden e-mail scandal and Hengry Ruggs DUI incident during the season. Former Patriots OC Josh McDaniels takes over the helm to lead the Raiders in 2022. The Raiders grabbed a pair of superstars in Chandler Jones via FA and arguably the best WR in football via trade from Green Bay to help get them over the hump and make a playoff push.
Although both teams made offensive improvements and trajectories point up we’re unlikely to see many if any snaps from the starters in this one. As was the case in previous years this game is really just a scrimmage for both squads. With new offenses to install in both JAX and LV you can expect the Punters to get plenty of work. The Under has hit in 7 of the last 9 Hall of Game games and since 2010 only 3 teams have scored more than 20 points in the HOF game. Also, this games only gone over 33 points 1 time since 2014.
