AL West foes Houston and Seattle open up a 3-game set at T-Mobile Park. The Astros began their season by taking 3 out of 4 in Anaheim and just recently split a 2-game set with Arizona. The Mariners split their opening series against the Twins 2-2 and avoided a 3-game sweep from the White Sox with a 5-1 win yesterday.
Jake Odorizzi will take the mound for Houston. He went just 4 innings against the Angels allowing 2ER in his first start of the season. He threw just 66 pitches in that one and should be stretched out a bit more for today. He made just 1 spring training start prior to the regular season. In his final 3 starts against SEA last season he went a combined 15.2 IP allowing just 4 ER.
Marco Gonzales starts for the Mariners in this one. He had a rough opener against the Twins. He went just 2 innings allowing 6 runs (2 earned), 6 hits, and 2 walks. Going to be tough to get things going against the Astros that have historically had their way with him. Altuve’s hitting .417 in 24 AB, Alverez .400 in 10 AB, Brantley .429 in 21 AB, Bregman .346 in 26 AB, Maldonado .333 in 21 AB, Tucker .444 in 9 AB, Goodrum .500 in 8 AB, and Gurriel .278 in 18 AB.
Odorizzi has a history of success against the Mariners and Seattle’s offense is off to an abysmal start to 2022. They rank 28th in BA this year and their slash line through 7 games: .192/.292/.630. The Astros also have their entire bullpen at their disposal in this one to help seal the deal.
Free Pick: Astros Moneyline -125
