4 Pick (12 Units).
1:00PM EST: Colts -1 (3 Units).
Indianapolis is 17-17 in 2 seasons under HC Shane Steichen. The former Eagles OC really hasn't had a QB to work with and yet they find ways to compete and win ball games. Daniel Jones isn't exactly some major upgrade but he's a veteran QB with a ton of starting experience that fits his system. Miami was solid defensively last season, but they lost most of last year's starters. The Colts defense is set to improve under new DC Lou Anarumo. He fizzled out in Cincinnati, but that front office steadily stripped their defensive roster while pouring money into their offense. Indy has talent at all 3 levels of their defense. The Dolphins are 10-16 on the road under HC Mike McDaniel. The best he's done in any single season is go 4-4. This is a Colts spot.
1:00PM EST: CAR/JAX Over 46.5 (3 Units).
Carolina's offense really exploded onto the scene towards the end of last season. The Jaguars ranked 27th in scoring defense last year and have a new coaching staff this year. Former Buccs OC Liam Coen took over. Being an offensive HC, we expect that Jags defense to continue to struggle but we love what he brings to the offense. He's been one of the best play-callers in recent years and paved the way for Baker Mayfield's career years. The Panthers had the worst defense in football last year. Getting them at Home in Week 1 is the ideal opening spot for Coen and company. Plenty of offensive talent in Jacksonville for him to work with. Like a back and forth meeting here.
1:00PM EST: Browns +5.5 (3 Units).
HC Kevin Stefanski is 4-1 at Home vs Cinci since he took over in 2020. The first loss at Home came last year 21-14. After winning 11 games in 2023 it was a disastrous 2024 campaign. A lot went wrong for the Browns with that Deshaun Watson move crippling the Franchise for a bit. Joe Flacco is the starting QB and he's going to sling it around. It was a bad year for the Browns defense last year but Cleveland pretty much packed it in. This is a team that really benefits from a clean slate here. Browns Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz is one of the best in the game. His first season in Cleveland was 2023 and they finished 1st in yards allowed per game. This is a quality coaching staff, and the Browns are going to compete.
4:05PM EST: SF/SEA Under 43.5 (3 Units).
The 49ers offense is a shell of what it once was. Aiyuk’s on the PUP, Deebo's gone, and CMC is once again banged up. They've also lost key pieces along their offensive line. Shanahan's one of the best play-callers in football so they'll be okay but Seattle's poised to break out defensively. HC Mike Macdonald is as good as any defensive mind schematically. Seattle finished 13th in scoring defense in his first year as Head Coach. All key contributors are back with the addition of Edge Demarcus Lawrence. Macdonald oversaw the #1 scoring defense his last year in Baltimore, and the 3rd ranked scoring defense his 2nd to last year. Seattle's defense is going to improve in his 2nd year.
The Seahawks offense is still a question mark. Sam Darnold had a great year in Minnesota but it's a much different supporting cast here. The biggest factor is the play-caller. MIN HC Kevin O'Connell is just one of those guys that knows offense. Josh Dobbs came in off the street for him at one point and had success. It helps when you have the best WR in football. SEA OC Klint Kubiak led the 23rd ranked scoring offense in New Orleans last year. There's just going to be some growing pains tying all these new pieces together. SF's defense struggled last year but the return of DC Robert Saleh will sure things up. Wherever he's been, elite defense has followed.
