3 Picks. 12PM: Penn State -8.5 (3U).
Just think there's a talent gap. SMU's defense has allowed plenty of points and Penn State's scored on everybody not named Ohio State. SMU's also never seen anything like this Penn State defense. They are coming up from down South to play in Penn State with sub-freezing temperatures and heavy winds. This is physical football weather and SMU loses in the trenches. They play well against the run defensively, but they average just 4.2 YPC on offense. Penn State's 12th in rushing yards allowed per carry and 15th on offense in rushing YPC. Penn State also has one of the best pass rushes in College Football. With that Home Crowd it's going to be miserable in pass protection on obvious passing downs.
4PM: Texas -13.5 (4U).
Texas didn't play the toughest SEC schedule, but they still played in the SEC. Clemson lost and really struggled offensively to every reputable football they played outside of SMU. Georgia beat them 33-3, Louisville 33-21 in Clemson, and South Carolina 17-14 in Clemson. The Longhorn’s defense has dominated everybody but Georgia but even they had their hands full. Clemson really doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs, they just played in a weak ACC conference and played just 1 game against an ACC team with a winning record in conference play during the regular season. With Texas playing at Home, we like them to dominate and if SMU, Louisville, Virginia, NC State, and Georgia can score 30+ on Clemson, Texas can too.
8PM EST: Tennessee Team Total Under 19.5 (3U).
Ohio State's defense has held every team but Oregon under this number and that game was played in Eugene. Tennessee played 4 SEC road games this year against Vanderbilt, Georgia, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. They had no issues against a bad Vandy defense, but Georgia held them to 17 and Arkansas to 14. Tennessee scored 25 on Oklahoma but that was with their defense absolutely dominating, securing 3 takeaways and limiting the Sooners to 222 yards. Tennessee's scoring margin Home and Away have always been drastic under HC Josh Heupel. This is as tough an environment as there is. Don't trust the Buckeyes offense and specifically QB Will Howard enough to lay the number but we like their defense to show out.
