Gridiron Player Club CFB 1-5 Units (8/24/24)

CFB

1 Pick... 12:00PM EST: Georgia Tech Team Total Over 20.5 (4 Units).

For starters GT went over this total in every single game last year. Georgia Tech ranked 4th in the ACC averaging 31.1 PPG and 1st averaging 203.8 Rushing YPG last season. They did it with an entirely new coaching staff and offensive players at key positions. QB Haynes King transferred from TX A&M and enjoyed a breakout season under OC Buster Faulkner. Faulkner enters his 12th season as an OC and his 2nd leading Georgia Tech. He was an offensive quality control coach at Georgia from 2020-2022. GT Head Coach Brent Key is widely considered one of the best OL coaches out there and he immediately turned around one of the worst OL's in the ACC.

We're bullish on Georgia Tech's offense this year as they return most key starters. QB Haynes King, 1,000-yard rusher Jamal Haynes, 4 of their 5 starting OL, and 5 of their 6 top receivers, including their top 2. All in all, the Yellow Jackets are Tied 7th in the FBS in returning starters headed into this season. The 2nd year leap is a real thing for Football programs. You aren't trying to install an entirely new program but build on your existing one. With so much experience returning this Tech offense should be better than last years. At the very least just as good.

Florida State's defense lost 5 defensive players to the draft, including 2 studs on the defensive line. Altogether there's only 4 returning starters on their defense and just 2 in their front 7. Yes, they still have some talent and brought in transfers, but GT ran on everybody last year. Starting RB Jamal Haynes averaged 4.6 YPC or more in every game but 1 last season. It was in a blowout loss against Ole Miss the 3rd week of the season. Haynes averaged 6.6 YPC over their last 6 games of the season. That includes 6.9 YPC against Clemson and 5.4 YPC against Georgia. It's the first game of the season and those defensive lineman's legs tire a little quicker because of it. The only way to get into game shape is by playing games. Tech's offense goes at its run game goes and they should have success.

There's always a chance FSU's offense has a field day against Tech's defense. Georgia Tech's defense was bad last season and despite 4 returning starters, FSU has the talent to score all over them. Tech could backdoor this if FSU blows the doors off and sends out reserves.
