Houston is trotting out a pitcher making just his third start back from Tommy John surgery tonight, and the price on the board doesn't fully account for it. Hayden Wesneski underwent elbow reconstruction in 2025, didn't take a big-league mound this season until a few weeks ago, and has thrown a grand total of 11.2 innings since returning. That's an extremely thin track record for the starter of a moneyline favorite, and it's the single biggest reason to take a look at San Francisco tonight.
San Francisco's answer on the mound has been trending the right way. Blade Tidwell opened this season with a rough 7.50 ERA in April and has brought that number down to 3.18 since, the kind of in-season improvement that points to a young arm figuring things out rather than getting by on early-season noise. Matched up against a Houston starter this unproven, that gap matters.
Houston is also missing shortstop Carlos Correa, who underwent ankle surgery in June and is done for the season, taking a proven veteran out of an infield that would otherwise be at full strength. It's also worth noting the money isn't as lopsided as the crowd: Vegas Insider has 83% of bets on Houston but only 62% of the actual dollars, a sign that some of the bigger bettors are more interested in San Francisco than the ticket count alone suggests.
At +132, San Francisco only needs to win a little more than four times out of ten to cash, a fair price against a Houston team leaning on an unproven arm and missing a key piece up the middle.
Bottom Line: A Houston starter with almost no innings behind him since major elbow surgery, a Giants pitcher trending in the right direction, and a shorthanded Astros infield all make San Francisco worth a look at plus money. Lean Giants Moneyline (+132).
