Framber Valdez makes his Tigers debut after 8 strong seasons in Houston, coming off a 3.66 ERA in 31 starts last year. He looked dominant this spring, posting a 0.98 ERA across 4 outings.
Michael King is on the other side for San Diego. While his spring was a bit shaky, he’s been solid overall with a 3.10 ERA in 46 games since joining the Padres.
Bullpen edge is a big factor here. Detroit didn’t need their top arms last night after a comfortable win, and San Diego only used the lower half of what’s considered one of the best bullpens in baseball.
With quality starting pitching and plenty of elite arms available late, this sets up as a low-scoring game.
