Houston Astros vs Los Angeles Angels
Moneyline: Astros -115 / Angels -105
Runline: Astros -1.5 (+145) / Angels +1.5 (-160)
Total: Over/Under 8.5
The Astros won both games of this 4-game set, elite pitching in game 1 and explosive bats in game 2. As predicted the Astros punished the Angels lesser bullpen arms with an 8 run 7th inning. The final score of last night’s game was 13-6, Angels put up a few runs when the Astros rolled out some weak arms once they had it in the bag.
Future Hall-of-Famer Justin Verlander takes the mound for Houston. Since arriving in Houston in 2017 he’s been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. He’s coming off a surgery that kept him out all of the 2021 season, but he appears his old self. He’s made 4 spring training starts allowing just 2 ER in 13.2 innings.
Newly acquired Noah Syndergard makes his debut for the Angels tonight and they need a strong performance from him. He’s battled injuries in his career but when healthy he’s right up there with the best of them and in spring he’s looked the part. He made a pair of spring training starts and only gave up 1 ER while striking out 11 in just 8.2 IP.
Two elite pitchers in this game tonight that will be more efficient and provide more length than their predecessors. Verlander owns great numbers against the Angels hitters, even Mike Trout hit just .160 across 25 plate appearances. Not a single player on the Astros offense has faced Syndegard before. Expect plenty of whiffs while they try to figure out the hard throwing right.
