The Pick
I like Georgia Tech to cover +24.5. It’s just too many points to give a Clemson offense that was pitiful last season. DJ Uiagalelei had huge expectations for the 2021 season but flopped, consistently making poor decisions and poor throws. He had more interceptions (10) than he did touchdowns (9). There’s also a new offensive coordinator at Clemson, Brandon Streeter. While he’s a hire from within, he’s still implementing his own twist on the offense, things that take time for an offense to learn. DJ is also throwing to new faces and guys without a lot of game experience. Clemson does however return all 3 RBs from last season. You can expect plenty of handoffs that’ll help shorten this game. A 3-9 Georgia Tech team also held Clemson to just 14 points last year. Offensively Georgia Tech has a lot of new faces but returning QB Jeff Sims is the just the kind of playmaker you need. He’s a big, strong, athletic QB that can extend plays with his legs. Super Senior Malchi Carter comes back at WR, he’s made 34 starts throughout his career and his 6-foot 3 frame provides Sims with someone to make contested catches. The Yellow Jackets offense won’t need to do much, but they’ve got enough playmakers to do enough to hang around.
