Boston's been eliminated from the playoffs and haven't won very many games lately. Texas is right on Houston's trail for the AL Central division lead but also just a game up for the final wild card spot. This is a much more important game for Texas.
The Red Sox start Tanner Houck. He was roughed up in a couple starts leading up to his last one. Surrendering 4ER over 5IP to the Royals and 5ER over 5.1 IP to the Orioles. He threw 6 shutout innings against the Yankees in his last start but that's a very bad Yankees line-up. They rank dead last in Batting Average in the Month of September and 27th in OPS. They aren't really hitting anyone.
Now he goes into Texas to face a Rangers offense with an .840 OPS at Home. The 2nd best mark at Home in MLB. The 5.88 Runs per game they score at home rank 2nd to the Atlanta Braves who average 5.89. The next closest are the LAD at 5.38.
Texas starts Nathan Eovaldi. He faces his former team in his 4th start from an IL stint. He was contending for the AL Cy Young before he went down with a forearm strain. There's been good and bad but that's too be expected considering he didn't make any rehab starts prior to his return. His arms near full strength though. He threw 75 pitches his last time out and should be good for 90+ in this one.
He gets the added motivation of playing his former club but it's a good spot for him. He's pitching at Home and facing a sub par Red Sox offense. They rank 25th with in OPS for the Month of September and are significantly worse away from Home. They rank 4th in OPS when batting at Home and that drops to 18th when on the road.
