Week 2 of the NFL Pre-Season wraps up with the Atlanta Falcons facing the New York Jets at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey. Kickoff is scheduled for 8PM Eastern Time and the game will air on ESPN.
These two met for a couple of joint practices during the week and it was the Jets who came away looking like the superior team on both offense and defense. Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh was happy enough with their performance that he’s decided to rest most of their veterans for tonight’s game. Atlanta isn’t expected to play their starters for long with the Jets rolling out their 2nd string.
The biggest takeaway from the joint practices was the constant pressure the Falcons QBs had to deal with. Whether it was Mariota or Ridder at the helm with the 1’s or the 2’s the New York Jets defensive line provided constant pressure. Something I expect the Jets front to continue in tonight’s game. Last week against the Eagles the Jets racked up 5 sacks, 4 of which came from their 2nd and 3rd string guys.
Desmond Ridder will take most of the snaps at QB for Atlanta. He had a solid outing against the Detroit Lions 3rd string guys in the pre-season opener which doesn’t say a whole lot. He probably faced stiffer competition against his own defense in College at Cincinnati last year. Detroit currently owns the youngest roster heading into the 2022 season. Feleipe Franks may take some late snaps at QB for the Falcons in this one too.
Mike White and Chris Streveler will be quarterbacking for the Jets. White had a nice opening drive when he ran with some of the 1s but didn’t do much with the 2s. Streveler came in at the end of the 3rd and ultimately led the Jets on 2 touchdown drives, one being a game winner with 21 seconds to play.
The weather is also a factor in this one as there will be rain throughout this game. I expect this game to stay close and that’s why I’m taking the Jets at home +4.5. Their Vets may be resting but their young players are going to play. Which is where most of their talent is anyway. Their 2nd and 3rd string dominated Philly in their pre-season opener and continued to play well in the joint practices this week.
Taylor's Pick: New York Jets +4.5.
