Sunday night baseball features the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals wrapping up a 3-game set at Busch Stadium, first pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. eastern time. They split the first two games of this series, the Cardinals stole game 2 last night when Braves Closer Kenley Jansen fell apart and walked in the winning run.
The Braves have been one of the best teams in baseball for the better part of 3 months now. They’ve won 56 of their last 78 games and show no signs of slowing down. Despite losing Freddie Freeman to the Dodgers in FA this Atlanta offense is better than they were a year ago. A breakout offensive season from Dansby Swanson, Matt Olson tearing it up with RISP, and the additions of Michael Harris and William Contreras from their farm system have them as the #2 offense in baseball. Over the past week they’re slashing .281/.360/.446.
Jake Odorizzi takes the mound for Atlanta. He posted a solid era of 3.56 in the first half of the season despite really struggling in the month of April. However, he hasn’t been as sharp since the All-Star Break, pitching to a 4.55 era across 6 starts. Despite pitching to the 20th, 27th, 28th, and 29th ranked offenses. His other 2 starts came against the Mets, the 7th ranked offense in which he allowed 8 runs on 14 Hits, 5 Walks, and 1 HBP in just 9.2 IP.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals are even hotter than the Atlanta Braves are this past month. They’ve won 20 of their Last 6 games and are an impressive 41-22 at Home this season. Their recent hot streak has a lot to do with their #1 ranked offense through the month of August. Their slash line this month: .292/.372/.510. That’s an OPS of .882, 40 points higher than the 2nd ranked Dodgers. They’re averaging 5.92 runs per game and have hit a whopping 41 Home Runs through just 25 games.
Adam “Waino” Wainwright starts for the Cardinals tonight. Despite being 40 years old he’s still shutting down MLB offenses on a regular basis. He’s made 5 starts in August allowing 9 ER across 33 IP, good for a 2.45 ERA. 6 of those 9ER came in one start against the Yankees though, he struggled with command walking 4 batters in just 4 innings. He’s also been lights out when pitching within the confines of Busch Stadium. He owns an era of 2.11 in 13 home starts and has only surrendered more than 3 ER one time. In fact 7 of those 13 starts he’s given 1 ER of fewer.
WinMyBets NFL GAME OF THE WEEK
All over the Cardinals Moneyline tonight. Adam Wainwright has pitched at an elite level at home while Odorizzi has struggled against good offenses. The Cardinals are also 4-0 in their last 4 in game 3 of a series. The relentless pressure St. Louis’s offense puts on teams thins out the bullpen as the series goes on. They’re also 8-2 their L10 games at home when facing a RHP
